St Jo’s U12&U13 Football, Netball and Rugby teams made Valkenburg their home over the Easter break; a tour of a lifetime for the 58 Year 7&8 students. A combination of both local and touring opposition made for an outstanding competition for our sides, with testing encounters for all three squads, played at some fantastic facilities.
Whilst results were impressive across the board, including a shield win for the netballers, runners-up medals for the squad and a victory for our rugby team over the Dutch National Champions, it was the values and attitude of our young people that shone through as a highlight for the trip.
The fun, however, wasn’t limited to on-field action! Each day, we were also treated to excursions to a pancake house, waterpark, bowling alley, laser tag and even a bounce park inside a cave! It didn’t stop there either. Mr Jakes’ hosted a great team challenge evening, while the ‘Dennis Decipherer’ tour quiz was also enjoyed by all, before the eagerly anticipated ‘Disco Night’ on the last evening!
After the first experience of a sports tour for many, we hope that students have returned home with wonderful memories to reminisce on for years to come. I have no doubt they now have a thirst for many more touring experiences like this, which lie ahead throughout their sporting journey at the College.
