With two-thirds of students achieving at least one A*/A grade or equivalent, St Joseph’s College is delighted with a strong Results Day showing. The 79 candidates taking A-level, BTEC and CTEC examinations this summer achieved an average 124 UCAS points, equivalent to BBB in traditional A-levels. Their hard work has secured a range of impressive destinations, including Oxbridge, and some highly contested Degree Apprenticeships.
Alexandra ‘Lexie’ Pryke’s three A*s, in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, will take her to Corpus Christi College Cambridge to study Medicine. This was an outstanding achievement for Lexie, who also captained St Jo’s U18 women footballers to the national title.
Tanaquil Lu, an award-winning public speaker and debater during her years at St Joseph’s, achieved A*s in English Literature and her Extended Project Qualification, and A grades in History and Ancient Greek. Tanaquil is destined for St John’s College, Oxford, where she will read Classics.
Livi Pryke (Head Girl 2023-24 and Lexie’s twin) will take up an extremely sought-after apprenticeship at The Bank of England, Caitlyn Wright goes to Unilever and Lauren Butcher to CBRE. Other high performers were Gabe Bonnett (AAA), who has already begun his apprenticeship with Ensors Accounting, and last year’s Deputy Head Girl, Anna Simpson-Jacobs, who attained a fantastic set of results (A*AB) all within a year, despite having faced gruelling medical treatment. Anna is looking forward to beginning her studies at the University of Exeter following a gap year.
Other universities about to welcome St Jo’s alumni include York, Leeds, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, UEA, Manchester, King’s College, SOAS and Nottingham, to name a few. The vast majority of students achieved their first-choice destinations and the remainder were offered insurance places.
Almost half of the St Joseph’s candidates achieved two or more A*/A grades or equivalent, and as ever, the College proved outstanding in its students’ success in vocational subjects. Six of the eight students on the Triple BTEC Sport and Exercise Science course attained the maximum D*D*D* grade, and all 21 on the Double BTEC Sport and Exercise Science course attained the maximum double D*. The Single Business BTEC course also saw a raft of Distinction to D* grades, Engineering returned a Distinction * average and St Joseph’s CTEC Digital Media students averaged Merit+.
Mr Sacha Cinnamond, Deputy Principal St Joseph’s College, said, ‘Our greatest strength as a small Sixth Form Centre is the closeness of the student community and the friendly and supportive relationships between students and staff. You could see that in the celebrations today.
‘Once again, our policy of offering the widest possible choice of subjects and courses has paid dividends in terms of results. Our mixed-ability students have worked hard, studying the subjects that most appealed to them, and they have achieved an admirable level of attainment.
‘These results will open doors to many varied exciting opportunities, and we are confident that our students are well-equipped to take the next steps in their education or careers. These remarkable young individuals are now embarking on the next phase of their journey, whether that means continuing their education or exploring the world as they take time to work and travel.’
