Being a pupil at St Jo’s since Year 7 has inspired me and allowed me to explore new passions and discover new talents. As well as being a member of the debating team, I have been able to take LAMDA lessons with Mrs Pethybridge and become fully involved in all aspects of the Performing Arts. Through work on the College Musicals, I have uncovered a talent for live sound engineering, enabling me to contribute to many aspects of school life. Mrs Frost has also nurtured my interest in all things Creative Imedia. This has led to exciting opportunities such as being interviewed by Apple and promoting the media department at College open mornings.
The above has culminated in Mr Kemsley the School Futures Advisor recommending me to an Audio-Visual company who live stream the Rugby Festival. At the Rugby Festival, I am part of the team delivering the live stream and have taken part in the technical set-up and preparation. I’ve been able to work alongside professionals and gain valuable practical experience. The Rugby Festival is a great opportunity not only for the sporting members of the school to shine but for the tech and media students too – proving that at St Jo’s every child is valued and can strive to be their best.
The values St Jo’s has instilled in me ‘Aspiration, Respect and Confidence’ has given me the ambition to pursue a career in sound engineering after A levels, hopefully gaining an apprenticeship with the BBC or in the West End. Thanks to the teaching staff at St Jo’s who have inspired me and supported me in my chosen career path at every opportunity.
