The Creative Arts give so many an opportunity to be their true self, to discover unrealised talent and to feel they belong. This ethos is embedded throughout the arts department at St Joseph’s College and through the school as a whole.
I joined St Joseph’s for my Sixth Form studies. I was extremely nervous as I was coming from a polar opposite school. However, my nerves were put at ease on my first day due to the care and kindness of my peers and teachers.
As soon as I joined I was approached about auditioning for our annual musical, which at the time was ‘Fame’. I landed the role of Mabel Washington. Being in the show truly helped me to find my feet in College. I was surrounded by people who were as passionate about the arts as I am.
I study A-level Drama, English Literature and History, all which I adore. My subject teachers have real life experiences and don’t just stop at teaching their subject. They teach us life.
This year I played a principal role in ‘Legally Blonde’. I was fortunate enough to help choreograph some of the dance numbers in the show and to co-direct some scenes. This opportunity was amazing. I’m hoping to study Drama and Film at university and having these first-hand, almost professional experiences allowed me to develop my confidence and my own ideas.
St Jo’s has your back no matter what industry you wish to go into. If you’re not sure what you want to do, St Jo’s will help you explore where your talent lies… in the drama studio, in the classroom or on the netball court.
The opportunities we receive here are unmatched. My sister, currently in Year 10, spent her summer on a six-week exchange programme in Australia living with a new family and going to school Down Under. St Jo’s offers once-in-a-lifetime opportunities and encourages everyone to grasp them.
The College partners with Arts International, an organisation dedicated to bringing industry professionals into schools to enhance students’ passion for the creative arts. Getting to work with West End performers is truly inspiring.
You never feel you’re alone at St Joseph’s. The students are the school’s number one priority. This is a place with kindness, nurture and respect at its heart. You can authentically be yourself whilst receiving incredible teaching and experiences. You genuinely look forward to coming to school each day.
