For the second year running at A-level, the College has seen both positive value-added and significant improvement in attainment. The percentage of A-level grades at A*- A and A*- B has both risen by five percentage points and the A* – E percentage has now risen to over 99%.
Those students taking BTEC qualifications also saw real success, with over 35% achieving the maximum Distinction* grades in their Sports Science or Business qualifications, equivalent to A* grades at A-level.
In addition, this is the first year St Joseph’s has entered students for the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). The ten candidates entered achieved an impressive five A*s, four As and a B grade.
Vice Principal Academic, Mr Cinnamond, said he was ‘delighted by another year of strong value-added achievement in the Sixth Form, following on from being placed in the top 15% nationally for A-level achievement in 2017.’
‘This clearly demonstrates the superb hard-working ethos of both staff and students at the College,’ he said.
There are many individual successes to celebrate at St Joseph’s. Students have been offered prestigious apprenticeships with Unilever and Media.com, professional sports contracts, places at drama and theatre schools and university courses including Medicine at the Manchester, Business at the University of Surrey, Agriculture at Harper Adams University and Chemical Engineering at Imperial and UCL, to name but a few.
Principal, Mrs Clarke, was equally proud of the students and staff at St Joseph’s stating;
‘The diverse provision offered in the Sixth Form at St Joseph’s, has allowed our fabulous students to succeed and achieve on courses which are both appropriate and which offer exciting and ambitious progression routes.’
