The grass really is greener at St Joseph’s College – and that’s official!
Our school, widely known for the quality of its sport and the beauty of its campus can be in no doubt about the foundation of that fame: the hard work and dedication of our grounds team.
The team has scooped top prize in the independent schools category at the Institute of Groundsmanship Industry Awards 2018. St Joseph’s faced Abingdon School, Oxford, in the final of the Growth Products Independent School Grounds Team of the Year and claimed the crown at an Oscar-style awards ceremony hosted by Mark Saggers of talkSPORT radio.
The event was held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole (on Wednesday 31 October) on the opening day of the SALTEX Exhibition at the National Exhibition Centre. SALTEX is the country’s leading turf management event for grounds care volunteers, professionals and manufacturers.
There to receive the award were our Head Groundsperson, Mr Peter Hamilton, and colleagues Mr Clive Nunn, and Mr Karl ‘Buster’ Bentman.
Mrs Danielle Clarke, Principal of St Joseph’s College said: ‘The College is immensely proud of its winning grounds team, so ably led by Mr Hamilton, and of the team’s richly-deserved IOG Independent School Grounds Team award. This award endorses our College motto: “Being our Best”, which is lived and breathed not only by our students, but also by our staff in all aspects of life at our fabulous school.’
