St Joseph’s College has consolidated its sterling reputation for the arts by again being named a Trinity Champion Centre, tasked with inspiring others by sharing its outstanding practice.
Champion Centres are recognised by Trinity College London, which has been overseeing external examinations in music, the performing arts, and English language teaching and learning since 1877.
Last year, just 56 schools, arts & cultural centres, youth & community hubs, and performing arts academies in the UK were deemed to have reached the Champion Centre standard, and although this year’s numbers have not yet been released, St Joseph’s College, whose students are aged from 2-18, remains within a very select band. Trinity College operates in over 70 countries and its Arts Award programme within the UK is managed in association with Arts Council England.
Mrs Harvey, Vice Principal Co-curricular, said, ‘Our renewed Arts Award status recognises our arts award delivery, arts provision, arts opportunities and outstanding results. Whilst we are ever ready to celebrate and support the wealth of individual artistic talent within the school – and there is certainly plenty of that – this is cast iron reassurance that we are delivering the arts effectively across the board.
‘This year we will have two cohorts completing arts award bronze, Years 8 and 9 – a significant number of students. It is full steam ahead for our delivery of creative subjects at St Joseph’s; we are currently working hard on the annual Arts Festival week, which commences Monday 21 June. We are also hugely excited by the addition of Dance and Textiles to our GCSE offering from September and a new exciting Fashion course to complement our vast range of arts options at A-level.’
