Held at Stoke City’s Bet365 Stadium, the English School’s trophy final was streamed live online. Students and staff at St Jo’s were also able to join in the success by watching the stream and supporting the women as they won 3-0 against Sandwell College.
For team coach, Miss Shorten the FA trophy was particularly dear – she won it herself as a player in 2008. As well as her role at St Jo’s, Miss Shorten also coaches the England Under 15 girls’ teams.
She said: ‘Some of our players have had to manage their school football and education along with representing clubs from around East Anglia, including Ipswich Town, Cambridge City and Hashtag United.
‘The girls have had exposure and opportunities this season from highs to lows, but their determination and resilience to achieve what they have is a credit to them.
‘Ranging from 16 to 18, our players included some having had to cope with anterior cruciate ligament injuries and some representing the College for the first time. The treble is just such a great achievement by them.’
Another of the coaches for the team is former Ipswich Town midfielder, Cole Skuse, who, alongside his playing career, has been using his experience and knowledge, to the benefit of St Joseph’s students.
The players received a warm send off to the final of the three title matches when all their fellow students lined the school’s main drive to wish them well. The morning after their win they were given a standing ovation at a special assembly.
